About Ray Sheppard, MD

Dr. Ray Sheppard Jr, has never been able to dunk a basketball. He has no musical aptitude. He was not blessed in those areas. But he was given the mind and ability that make him an excellent and compassionate surgeon.

After graduating Magna Cum Laude with a degree in physics from Georgia Tech, Dr. Sheppard Jr. earned his medical degree from the University of Alabama in Birmingham.

Surgical Training

He completed his surgical training in the prestigious DeBakey Department of Surgery at the Baylor School of Medicine in Houston, Texas.

During his surgical training, Dr. Sheppard, was fortunate to be mentored by world-class surgeons at the renown Ben Taub Trauma Center as well as the famous M. D. Anderson Cancer Center. Through his training, Dr. Ray Sheppard Jr. developed remarkable skills that allow him to handle the most complex surgical problems as well as routine general surgical illnesses.

Dr. Sheppard Jr. served as a teaching assistant both in the physics department at Georgia Tech and the anatomy department at UAB. While at Baylor, he was recognized with the Outstanding Chief Surgical Resident Award for his exemplary teaching and leadership. Today, he continues as an Associate Professor for the Huntsville campus of the UAB Medical School.
